Keith Allred is the Executive Director of the National Institute for Civil Discourse (NICD), an organization that works to build our nation’s capacity to engage differences constructively. His work has been featured in the Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Los Angeles Times, The Hill, and Congressional Quarterly.

Keith is also the founder of CommonSense American, now the flagship NICD program that brings Republicans, Democrats, and Independents together from across the country to identify solutions with broad grassroots support and then champion them. The over 85,000 members are now three-for-three in Congress.

Prior to founding CommonSense American, Keith was an Associate Professor of Public Policy Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. He started his academic career as a professor at Columbia University. Keith earned a PhD in Organizational Behavior and Social Psychology from UCLA and BA in American History from Stanford.

A fifth-generation Idahoan who grew up working summers on the family cattle ranch, Keith finished eighth in the world standings of the National Cutting Horse Association in 2017 after competing in the World Finals in Fort Worth.

Dmitriy is an assistant professor of government in the College of Applied Science and Technology at the University of Arizona. His research focuses on international conflict processes and the foreign relations between the United States and the aspiring global powers, especially China and Russia. Before joining the faculty at the University of Arizona, Dmitriy held a postdoctoral fellowship at the Fletcher School at Tufts University and a predoctoral fellowship at the Davis Center at Harvard University.

Dr. Martínez holds the title of Distinguished Scholar & Associate Professor in the School of Sociology. He also serves as a co-director of the Binational Migration Institute and is a core faculty member in the Mexican American Studies Department. Dr. Martínez’s research and teaching interests include race and ethnicity, undocumented immigration, and criminology. He is particularly interested in the social and legal criminalization of immigration.

Dr. Martínez has conducted extensive research on deportation and undocumented border crosser deaths along the US-Mexico border. He is a principal investigator of the Migrant Border Crossing Study, a Ford Foundation-funded research project that examines recently deported undocumented migrants’ experiences crossing the US-Mexico border and residing in the United States. He edited In the Shadow of the Wall: Violence and Migration on the U.S. Mexico Border, which was released in 2018 by the University of Arizona Press.

His current research focuses on 1) Latino/a panethnicity, 2) the relationship between so-called “sanctuary” policies and public safety, 3) migrant deaths, and 4) the ecological correlates of officer-involved shootings and violent crime in southwestern cities.

Dr. Martínez is an affiliate of the School of Government and Public Policy, the School of Geography, Development, & Environment, the Center for Latin American Studies, and the SBS Human Rights Practice Program. He currently serves on the editorial boards of the American Sociological Review and the Journal on Migration and Human Security.

Jeannine Relly is Professor in the School of Journalism at The University of Arizona. She holds a courtesy appointment with the School of Government and Public Policy. Dr. Relly is an affiliated faculty member with the Center for Latin American Studies, the Center for Middle Eastern Studies and the Center for Border and Global Journalism. Her research focuses on government information policy and press-state relations, democratic institutions, freedom of expression and access to information in countries in conflict and political transition. She also has a line of research focused on formal and informal institutions related to the policy issue of public corruption.

Sharon B. Megdal, Ph.D. is Director of The University of Arizona Water Resources Research Center (WRRC), a Cooperative Extension center and a research unit in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Other primary titles are Professor and Specialist in the Department of Environmental Science, C.W. & Modene Neely Endowed Professor, and Distinguished Outreach Professor.

Sharon Megdal aims to bridge the academic, practitioner, and civil society communities through water policy and management research, education, and engagement programs. The geographic scope of Dr. Megdal’s work ranges from local to international. Applied research projects include analysis of water management, policy, and governance in water-scarce regions, groundwater recharge, and transboundary aquifer assessment. Key engagement initiatives are Indigenous Water Dialogues and Diversifying Voices in Water Resources.

She is the lead editor of the book, Shared Borders, Shared Waters: Israeli-Palestinian and Colorado River Basin Water Challenges and she has guest edited several special journal issues. Dr. Megdal teaches the multidisciplinary graduate course “Water Policy in Arizona and Semi-arid Regions”. In 2020, she was awarded the Warren A. Hall Medal for lifetime achievement in water resources research and education by the Universities Council on Water Resources.

Sharon Megdal serves as on the Board of the American Water Resources Association and is an ex officio member of the Leadership Team for the Colorado River Basin Water & Tribes Initiative. Recent professional service includes serving for 12 years as a popularly elected Director for the Central Arizona Water Conservation District, also known as the Central Arizona Project (CAP), and Board President for the International Arid Lands Consortium. Dr. Megdal has served on numerous Arizona boards and commissions, including the Arizona Corporation Commission, the State Transportation Board, and the Arizona Medical Board. She holds a Ph.D. degree in Economics from Princeton University.

Kate Kenski (Ph.D., University of Pennsylvania) is Professor of Communication and Government & Public Policy at the University of Arizona where she teaches political communication, public opinion, and research methods. She is a former editor of the International Journal for Public Opinion Research and is currently an associate editor of Public Opinion Quarterly. She has served as Chair of NCA’s Political Communication Division (2011) and as Secretary/Treasurer of APSA’s Political Communication Section (2010-present). Her book The Obama Victory: How Media, Money, and Message Shaped the 2008 Election (co-authored with Bruce W. Hardy and Kathleen Hall Jamieson; 2010, Oxford University Press) has won several awards including the 2011 ICA Outstanding Book Award, the 2012 NCA Diamond Anniversary Book Award, the 2012 NCA Political Communication Division Roderick P. Hart Outstanding Book Award, and The PROSE Award for 2010 Best Book in Government and Politics. Kenski is also co-author of the book Capturing Campaign Dynamics: The National Annenberg Election Survey (2004, Oxford University Press). She has published research in journals such as the American Behavioral Scientist, Communication Research, the International Journal of Public Opinion Research, the Journal of Applied Social Psychology, the Journal of Broadcasting & Electronic Media, Presidential Studies Quarterly, and Public Opinion Quarterly. Her current research focuses on incivility in online forums and multimedia teaching strategies to mitigate cognitive biases.

Carl Bauer is a Professor in the School of Geography, Development, and Environment at the University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ, where he teaches and does research in the fields of comparative and international water law and policy. His approach is interdisciplinary and combines law, geography, and political economy. Bauer was a researcher at Resources for the Future in Washington, DC, and he has consulted for the United Nations, World Bank, Interamerican Development Bank, Global Water Partnership, etc. Bauer has worked in Chile for 30 years, studying the Chilean model of water markets and governance. He has a Ph.D. in Jurisprudence and Social Policy, University of California-Berkeley Law School; M.S. in Geography, University of Wisconsin-Madison; and B.A. in Geology, Yale College.

My interests focus on justice and ethical decision-making in society. In the later 70s and early 80s I was a law enforcement officer, in various capacities, in Wisconsin. While working I completed my Bachelors degree at Lakeland College and proceeded to the University of Wisconsin Madison to receive a Masters and Ph.D. in Sociology with concentrations in criminology, law and statistics. At the University of Arizona I have taught courses ranging from General Education to Ph.D. seminars. My research has ranged from life-course studies of deviance to the implementation and evaluation of drug courts to correctional theories and policy. I am currently the Director of the Rombach Institute of Delinquency, Crime and Corrections.
